Aaniish Naa Gegii:
the Children’s Health and Well-being Measure

The ACHWM© is a group of Indigenous health leaders and academic researchers with a shared vision of wellness for Indigenous children and youth across Canada. Together, we provide accessible and culturally-relevant resources to Indigenous communities.

How can the ACHWM support your community?

Wellness Measure

Our user-friendly app assesses the well-being of Indigenous children and youth on a tablet and asks each child “How are you?” or Aaniish Naa Gegii in Anishinabemowin. The measure covers four key areas: Spiritual, Emotional, Physical, and Mental well-being. We have worked with Indigenous children and youth to develop culturally-relevant questions, and with community partners to create a platform that supports communities control over data. The results inform local services to better support the needs of their children and youth.

Wellness Resource Hub

Our team has developed many resources to support Indigenous children and youth. This site share these resources to support their (w)holistic wellness. Our site includes effective group programs, wellness resources, activity sheets, facilitator guides, and other relevant resources, and serves as a starting point for communities and nations to exchange culturally relevant knowledge. The hub features group programs.

The ACHWM Member portal contains detailed online training to help you and your community learn how to implement the measure.

What the Children Say

“I liked the survey, the actual typing and touching on the tablet. I liked how it asked questions about being active.”

Indigenous children’s health is about language.
